There are many factors in winning football games. But nothing beats experience, most of the time.
Yes, coaching in good faith and ability are also big factors, but most of the time, younger teams struggle more and those with time for the task are usually better.
Just look at the latest Michigan teams. The teams in 2016 and 2018 were full of experienced talents, while in some other years, younger players were placed in prominent roles.
ESPN’s advanced analytics guru Bill Connelly compiled a list of all the university’s football teams, which takes into account transfers and determines who has the most productive and who has the least production.
Michigan beat the national average of 76.7% (and the 2014-2020 average of 62.6%) while 78% of its talent returned, placing Wolverines 57th nationally. But what about who they encounter in the grid? The state of Ohio is one of the least experienced teams in college football. Could this be a year when corn and blue break a significant loss?
Clearly, it’s hard to bet, but still here, all Michigan teams face to set the price capability there who has seen the field before.
