Goal twins During their game days, Roberto Mancini and Gianluca Vialli are still together winning matches.

When the Italians won the Spanish European Championship quarterfinals, Mancini shared happy hugs with Vialli on the field at Wembley Stadium.

Gianluca and I have known each other for a very long time, so it’s only natural that our relationship is different, said national team head coach Mancini. I’m not saying we’ve grown up together, but that’s almost the way it is.

We spent several years together and we have a relationship that goes far beyond friendship. He’s like a real brother to me.

The pair has also gone through high and low points on the same field in London.

They were teammates in Sampdoria when they lost to Barcelona in the 1992 European Cup final at old Wembley. It was the last match the duo played together after eight years in an Italian club, after which they received its only league title, four Italian Cups and a Cup Winners Cup.

Wembley’s successes followed both. Vialli won the FA Cup at a well-known spot as Chelsea’s manager in 2000, and Mancini did the same with Manchester City in 2011.

The pair was reunited in 2019 when Mancini appointed Vialli as head of the Italian team delegation shortly before Vialli publicly announced that he had recovered from another battle against pancreatic cancer.

The most flawless uneasy feeling is different from Mancinis ’sometimes volcanic nature, and his role allows him to work with players, coaches, and support staff to share his knowledge and experience.

Whatever they do, it works.

Italy missed entry to the 2018 World Cup, a shocking failure for a team that has won the tournament four times and is always waiting for a competitor. But it wasn’t until three years later that the Mancini-Vialli combination led Italy past in the penalty shootout past Spain and reached the Euro 2020 final.

As Mancini and Vialli ran ecstatically on the field on Tuesday, their party seemed to be more than winning the game.
