Sri Lankan cricket Angelo Mathews has informed Sri Lankan cricket (SLC) of his plans to retire from international cricket, a media report said. “According to sources, Mathews (34) has informed SLC that he is currently discussing the matter and will announce his decision in the coming weeks,” Newswire said.

The former skipper was among the older crickets who opposed the new list of contracts for the 2021/22 season due to a lack of transparency.
The senior player is now the only cricket among the 30 players who has not signed a tour contract before the series against India. He has asked the SLC to “release him from national duties for the time being.”
The versatile player was not part of the Sri Lankan white ball team in England because he was on paternity leave. Mathews had last appeared in the form of a white ball against the West Indies in Antigua in March this year. He had to leave the tour midway for personal reasons. He appeared in the Sri Lanka 1-0 test series, which beat Bangladesh in May.
Mathews made his international debut in 2008 and had been a very important member of the team with his diverse skills. He was appointed captain of the test team at the age of 25 and became the youngest skipper of all time in the island nation.
He stopped the captain in 2017 to focus on his game. Despite being full of questions about form, fitness, and injury, Mathews always remained the focus. To date, Mathews has played 90 tests, 218 ODIs and 49 T20Is in Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan cricket (SLC) launched a five-member panel on Wednesday before a series of restricted transfers against India to investigate a biobubble breach by Kusal Mendis, Dhanushka Gunathilake and Niroshan Dickwella on a national team tour in England.

Sri Lankan cricket wants to announce the appointment of a 5-member panel on alleged abuses by three players, namely Kusal Mendis, Dhanushka Gunathilake and Niroshan Dickwella, on tour in England with the national team, ”the SLC said in a statement.
