Panjab University plans to set up significantly more tennis courts, including flood lights, on the sports field during the upcoming session on campus.
A proposal has already been made by the officials concerned.
In addition to tennis courts, the university also proposes the construction of a velodrome and a synthetic athletics track. Both projects have been under preparation for many years.
A proposal has been sent to the authorities to improve the existing tennis infrastructure and also to build new synthetic tennis courts. In addition, it has been proposed to introduce flood lights on tennis courts, the source said.
Currently, the campus has two synthetic courts and has lawns that have been lying unused since age.
The source asked about the deployment plans for the clay or grass fields that it needed a lot of care and maintenance.
We need permanent staff and resources to maintain clay and grass fields. Because of the structure, it is not recommended that these be here, the source said.
In addition to setting up new courts, an arena fence has also been proposed, the source said.
Earlier, the Directorate General of Sports at the University of Panjab announced that the funds raised through the sports fee could be used to improve sports infrastructure.
Setting up a synthetic track and building a velodrome, these are a few projects that have been hanging in balance for some time. If the funds are transferred, they must be used to create these two arenas for the benefit of the players, the official said.
