NC State Butler leads the All-ACC Baseball Academic Team

GREENSBORO, NC (theACAC.com) NC state striker Jonny Butler has been recognized as the Baseball Scientist Athlete of the Year at the 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference and leads the All-ACC sport announced on Thursday.

Butler became the ACC’s batting champion (.376) when he led Wolfpack’s College World Series spot and ranked among the league leaders in progression rate (.663) and base (.452).

A native of Channahon, Illinois, Butler earned the first-team All-ACC medals when the regulars hit better than 400 at the end of the regular season. He was one of the country’s most dangerous strikers in the stretch, turning in 11 consecutive multi-hit matches to complete the regular season. Butler went 10-for-32 (.313) in the NCAA tournament game in the team’s high 12 runs. beaten in, highlighted on a 3-for-4 trip with a home tour and five career-best RBIs in his College World Series debut vs. Stanford on June 19th.

Named All-America by four publications, Butler has also been successful in the class, but majoring in accounting. He is a triple NC State Deans List student and a double ACC Academic Honor Roll member.

A total of 21 student-athletes who earned All-ACC ratings this season also secured places on the academic team, highlighted by first-team honors Luke Waddell (Georgia Tech), Henry Davis (Louisville), Butler (NC), John Michael Bertrand (Notre Dame), Andrew Abbott (Virginia) and Gavin Cross (Virginia Tech).

Abbott is the only student-athlete on the 2021 All-ACC academic team to collect the award for the third time.

In addition, five student-athletes on the All-ACC Freshman team earned All-ACC academic team honors.

All 14 ACC baseball programs are represented on the All-ACC academic team as Duke leads all schools with seven selections, followed by Notre Dame with six. Clemson, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, and NC each had five.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be presented annually to the best junior or senior students in their sport. Award nominees have had to keep 3.0 grade points in their careers as well as 3.0 in the last semester.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with an average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released later this month.
