Resetting Michigans ’best football recruiting targets of 2022

We have about five months to start the early signing season in 2022, and the Michigan football class is starting to take shape. Jim Harbaugh and his staff have 15 verbal commitments and counts, but the board still has plenty of top goals, mostly on the defensive side of the ball.

Let’s dive in and see where the wolves board is as we head to the summer dog days.

QB

Commits: Four stars Jayden Denegal

Objectives: None

The quarterback wrapped up last month when Denegal made a substantial commitment on the spot when throwing in front of the coach. The wolverine can now look ahead to its main destination in 2023 with state five-star Dante Moore.

RB

Commits: Three stars CJ Stokes

Destinations: Four stars George Pettaway

At the moment, it really looks like Michigan’s lone remaining backward goal is Pettaway, which is among the top 100 players in the 247Sports combination and the number 7 running class. He officially visited Victors Weekend last month, but has sought the Crystal Ball to go to North Carolina, where he unofficially visited before going to Ann Arbor. The Wolves may not need another running player in this class when they took two in 2021, but it looks like they want another one.

WR

Commits: Four stars Tyler Morris, four stars Tayshawn Trent

Destinations: Four stars Dane Key, three stars Dillon Bell

The board is really starting to shrink to this class of wide receiver location. But with two of the four stars already in the fold, Josh Gattis and the company can spend time on their way out.

They feel like they’re leading to Bell, who officially visited Victors Weekend, and doing well with Key, who visited the week before Victors Weekend. I have a feeling they want at least one guy still in the receiver before everything is said and done.

Commits: Three stars Marlin Klein, three stars Colston Loveland

Destinations: Four stars Oscar Delp

Once the two players are already engaged, the Wolverines are in a unique place. They can either clap the station or continue recruiting an elite gift like Delp, someone they offered before anyone else did when he was an unclassified recruiter.

It is likely that they will continue to recruit him because he is too good to ignore. I still think he’s going somewhere in the SEC, but a worthy shot to continue him.

Commits: Three stars Connor Jones, three stars Alessandro Lorenzetti

Destinations: Five star Josh Conerly Jr.., four stars George Fitzpatrick, three stars Mark Nabou,

With only two commitments and many targets left, Ahmat may have to evaluate more guys along the line of attack this fall.

They hosted an informal visit to Nabou long after they had offered him last month. Fitzpatrick also came to Ann Arbor in June as an official visit. Conerly, the highest ranked in the group, has not yet seen UM, but may come to town for BBQ at the Great House later this month. This station group is now a lot waiting for space, but they need more guys in this category. Time.

Commits: Four stars Mario Eugenio, three stars Kavonte Henry, three stars Davonte Miles

Destinations: Five star Walter Nolen, three stars Deone Walker, three stars Joseph Adedire, three stars Joshua Josephs, three stars Isaiah Hastings, unclassified Kenneth Grant,

Michigan is a little ahead along the defensive line like an offensive line, but it still has work to do, especially indoors.

Nolen is without a doubt the best player in the class with the versatility to play indoors or outdoors; The glutton recruited him as diligently as the others during this period. Walker (6-foot-6, 340 pounds) seems to be a very likely candidate for commitment to the interior. Grant and Hastings are also two items inside, and Hastings was offered just last week.

Adedire and Josephs are the two remaining potentials on the edge, and Joseph is perhaps more in the outline / edge rusher category. Both players visited Victors Weekend.

Pound

Commits: Three stars Aaron Alexander

Destinations: Four stars Sebastian Posket, four stars Lander Barton, four stars Years Kanak, three stars Micah Pollard, three stars Jeremy Patton

The linebacker board is incredibly fascinating. There aren’t too many guys out there, but I think you can also gather a couple of guys I’ve put on the defensive line, like Josephs and Adedire. Barton and Pollard also fall into this category

The group’s traditional defenders are Posket and Kanak, both of whom saw near Michigan on official visits in June. Cheeks have been very profitable for North Carolina on Twitter lately, and Kanaki is recruiting basically all of the university’s major football programs under the sun. Both aren’t slam dunks to join the Michigans class, so this could be another position that the Wolverines need to re-evaluate this fall.

DB

Commitment: Five-star CB Will Johnson, a four-star DB Kody Jones, three-star CB Myles Pollard

Objectives: Five-star USC CB commits Jackson tomorrow, five stars Keon Sabb, the four-star Georgia CB commits Marquis Groves-Killebrew, four-star S DArco Perkins-McAllister, four-star S Dillon Tatum, three-star CB Jahlil Firenze, three-star S JaKobi Albert, the three-star Kentucky CB commits Andre Stewart

Defensive backs. Defensive backs everywhere.

There’s a ton to take in, but I’m not sure Michigan is currently leading more than just one, as it’s Florence. Everyone else is a huge question mark.

Sabb appears to be scheduled to land elsewhere despite an official visit last month. Jackson, Groves-Killebrew, and Stewart are both committed to other programs, so translating them takes some persuasion. Tatum could have committed months ago, but clearly hold on. Albert and Perkins-McAllister both officially visited in June, and both now have a Michigan Crystal Ball, so these guys are worth following more closely.

This position needs to be monitored very closely in the coming months as Michigan appears to add several more categories in 2022 after landing only two (one safety, one corner) in 2021.
