“It’s been really exciting. The past isn’t ideal, but it’s given us guys a chance to show what we’re capable of. There’s a lot of people watching,” Gregory said.

“To say that you played your country on behalf of cricket at home, is a special moment and the crowd was fantastic, they really went after a day in the sauce!

“But it’s hard to break into this one-day England team. It’s hard for the guys there to get ahead. We can just put on a show and put our hands up when the opportunity arises.

“The world is very strange right now, injuries can be around the corner and Covid is around the corner. There can be a lot of opportunities.”

One opportunity that doesn’t come up very often is the opportunity to watch the England football team in the final of the big tournament, and Gregory is looking forward to watching the match with his new temporary teammates who have safely won their own trophy.

“We’ll all come together and watch the game tomorrow,” he said.
