Peping will stop the hockey president

Jose Peping Cojuangco Jr. resigned as President of Larong Hockey sa Pilipinas (LHP) recently and severed his last ties to Philippine sports after serving as its top director for decades.

According to reports, 86-year-old Cojuangco mentioned health reasons for withdrawing from the LHP, which was set up in 2019 to allow the country to send the team to Southeast Asian games.

His longtime partner, Steve Hontiveros, leader of the Handball Federation, said his job is to move until an interim body is formed and its charter amended. President of the Philippine Olympic Committee 2004-2018. At the same time, he was a riding boss.

Cojuangco also assisted in bowling in the 1980s while working with Hontiveros, then the International Bowling Federation and President of Bowling in the Philippines.

With the help of the government, we are pushing for changes to the LHP charter, repairing the house first, and then we can work on expanding it to a larger, nationwide representation, Hontiveros said.

Hontiveros said he wants to take baby steps before working on setting up a national team and developing a long-term program.

He will follow former volleyball president Cayco to become LHP leader once the association is established and ongoing.
