SLC contract dispute: Muttiah Muralithara beats four senior cricketers

Sri Lankan spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan has beaten four senior players on the national team in a dispute over central contracts.

Many players, including seniors such as former captains Angelo Mathews and Kusal Perera, have been involved in a long-running dispute with Sri Lankan cricket (SLC) over key contracts.

Several Sri Lankan cricketers had refused to sign a deal with the government because of a wage dispute after they had agreed to play against England in a tour deal.

Sri Lankan players were not said to have signed contracts on transparency issues, but Muralitharan said it was mainly because older cricketers were paid less under the new performance-based system.

“This year, we think they don’t need a central contract, we can go with tour contracts,” Murali told Hiru TV.

Cricketers have signed tour contracts ahead of the India series for the period beginning July 18th.

Muralitharan, 49, the highest 800 paw user in Test cricket, said older cricketers did not allow other young players to sign contracts because of their pay cuts.

Now that the players didn’t accept it when the government offered it, Muralitharan said they won’t get centralized contracts.

Several older players who are not part of the white ball lineup are now without contracts after Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) canceled the annual offer.

Some players had later agreed to sign central contracts after disclosure of transparency details, but the SLC only offered them tour contracts.

Thanks to the new transfer of SLC, cricket systems will no longer be paid monthly, so test players will suffer the most as they will not have any scheduled tours until November.
