Ash Barty’s success at Wimbledon takes the tennis world by storm to an amount the 25-year-old would never have expected.
Meanwhile his brilliant performances on the court have earned him athletic acclaim, it has been Barty’s behavior on the court that has truly captured the hearts of the tennis world.
CRUEL: Because of the news from Serena Williams and Roger Federer, the world of tennis sighed
‘RIGHT DECISION’: Tennis fans were amazed at Bianca Andreescu’s announcement
The best example of the extent of Barty’s love is the former star Martina Navratilova, who boldly declared naming her child After the Aussie champion.
Navratilova, who is a nine-time Wimbledon champion herself, had fallen in love with Barty’s unparalleled run in the All England tournament after placing a win over Karolina Pliskova.
When thanks to the 25-year-old were poured out around the world, Navratilova’s tribute was apparently cordial when she decided to suspend the conclusion of the BBC’s final presentation in order to get her remarks.
“If I had a child, I’d tell him – or him – Ash! Because he’s the right thing to do!” he said.
“I want to congratulate both women on playing the great finals – and I want to congratulate Ash Barty, who is a great sports ambassador.” He is a role model through and through. “
The U.S. champion was on the rise in terms of Barty’s outlook, and a friendly Australian would be knocked down to win several other big slams.
Navratilova said Barty could undoubtedly have a third grand slam win in her name unless the injury has interrupted her campaign in a recent French Open.
“The opportunity definitely exists. He should already be a three-time champion (after an injury to a French open hip paid him a chance to compete when he was in top form),” he said.
“Grass favors the athlete – and Ash Barty is certainly the one he’s shown in recent years.
“He has 10 good years. Hopefully great years.”
Ash Barty humiliated role model proposals after winning Wimbledon
Still, after talking about all the future of tennis, Barty focused just as much on the role model outside the field.
After winning, one overseas journalist offered a tribute to the wrapped question.
“Around the world, you are respected as a humble, kind and very nice person,” he said.
“How important is it to you to be a very good person with a top tennis player?”
Barty typically sounded like a tick, confused by the words “kind” when he thanked the questioner, but his answer told him all about him.
“I think I’ve just tried to live up to the values my parents instilled in me. I mean, it’s more important to be a good person than a good tennis player,” he said.
“The opportunity to learn from my parents and siblings, my family, was a massive part of my upbringing.
“I think a good person is definitely my priority every single day.”
And he hopes to bloom as a human being every day, both in and out of court.
Wimbledon has actually changed him.
“I think in the last two weeks I’ve grown massively, massively. Even in the last two weeks I think I’ve grown as a person,” he said.
“I’ve certainly been able to use my experience as a tennis player to get me through tough matches this week.
“I felt like I was able to get better at every match and trust myself more and more every time I stood out on the field.”
