The International Hockey Federation postponed the start of this year’s FIH World Hockey 5s on Wednesday until 2022 due to the “uncertainties” surrounding the global development of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The FIH Hockey 5s Lausanne 2021 event was originally scheduled for September this year, but has now been postponed to next year.

FIH CEO Thierry Weil said in a statement that the decision was made to preserve the full potential of the event.

However, he agreed that the decision was disappointing, bearing in mind the global exposure of Hockey 5.
