Technical tennis was honored as the ITA All-Academic Team, all seven Golden Eagles named ITA Scholar-Athlete

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – In court, their success is well documented. Eight OVC regular season titles in the last 10 full seasons with four conference tournament crowns in the last five campaigns. But off the field, the recognitions have proved just as impressive with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s latest announcement.

The Tennessee Tech tennis team broke it again in the classroom as the Golden Eagles was awarded the ITA All-Academic Team for the club’s final school year achievement. In addition, TTU’s tennis court students made it perfect from seven to seven when each golden eagle took home the recognition of an ITA research athlete. Mika Berghaus, Elias Grubert, Evzen Holis, Andre Rodeia, Jun Sasagawa, Rafael Tosetto and Carlos Vicente all took the badge home.

To qualify for the ITA All-Academic Team programs, teams must have an average of at least 3.2 (on a scale of 4.00), all student athletes must be listed on the Institutional Eligibility Form, and all college letter winners must include a cumulative team GPA for the current academic year. Golden Eagles wrapped up a cumulative GPA of 3.76 for the school year 2020-21, sending 3.79 GPAs during the fall semester and 3.73 in the spring.

To be recognized as an ITA Research Athlete, he or she must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the Institutional Eligibility Form.

Tech tennis was recently honored as TTU’s small academic team of athletics of the year as part of the 2021 Golden Wings Awards. It was the fourth time in six years since its founding that Kenny Doyle’s band has demanded recognition.
