Indian player test positive for COVID-19 in England Cricket news

New Delhi: One of the 23 Indian cricketers on the ongoing England tour has tested the positive impact of COVID-19 during the 20-day break and will not be traveling with the team in Durham on Thursday.

The news comes as a result of BCCI Secretary Jay Shah recently sending an email to the UK India Division warning of the increasing incidence of COVID-19. The side will have to reassemble in Durham in a bio bubble before the test series against England next month.

“Yes, one of the players has gotten a positive result, even though he has no symptoms at the moment. He is in quarantine with an acquaintance and does not plan to travel with the team in Durham on Thursday,” a BCCI source told PTI under anonymity.

Although the party circulating in the UK is bad in terms of the player’s name, it is understood that the Delta variant has suffered from him, which has led to an increase in the number of cases there.

In his letter, Shah told players to “avoid” crowding, as Covishield offers only protection, not complete immunity against the virus.

In fact, Shah’s letter explicitly stated that players should avoid going to Wimbledon and the Euro Games, which recently ended there.

The Indian team is scheduled to take on England in a five-match test series starting on August 4th.
