Amesbury, Senior, Singles (MVP)

After helping Amesbury with the boys ’tennis for the best programming season two years ago, Alex Pucillo returned from a long pandemic layoff and established himself as the best boy player in the area.

The senior captain finished 6-4 as Amesbury’s number one player and placed as the best single performer in Greater Newburyport. He conveniently won his match against Newburyport and Pentucket and kept the Indians in regular competition with key wins against the best player on the opposing team.

Three times at the Daily News All-Star, Pucillo has rewarded Daily Newshonors figures for each high school season and a completed career game record of 29-10. Pucillo also played a key role in Amesbury’s entry into the 2019 Division 3 North Finals, and outside of tennis, the Daily News All-Star was also cross-country skiing last fall.

Amesbury, Jr., singles

Greater Newburyport coaches named the area the best player in the second duel. Earned a big 6-4, 6-4 win over Newburyport on May 24th. He has emerged as one of Amesbury’s youngest teams as a newcomer and is one of the upcoming Indian players.

Will Smith

Newburyport, Jr., singles

Three times the Daily News All-Star. The Triton student previously earned Daily News recognition in seventh and eighth grades and made a big impression in the first season with Newburyport Cooperative. Went 5-1 in the third doubles and also ran into other doubles in the match. Swept third doubles against Amesbury and Pentucket, helping the Clippers pull tight 3-2 wins for the Indians on May 24th. Also earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory to help Newburyport upset the multi-year CAL power plant Manchester Essex 3-2.

Tomas Jahn

Newburyport, senior, doubles

The newcomer to tennis made an immediate impact on the first doubles. Together with his football teammate and tennis enthusiast Finn Sullivan to move 7-2 in the first twins. Swept matches with Amesbury and Pentucket. Won an exciting three-round match 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 against Manchester Essex to get a historic shocked victory at the multi-year CAL power plant. Four athletes won CAL Titles at the Newburyport football and basketball situation this year and contributed to the Clipper football team. The senior captain helped the new Newburyport-Triton network and exceeded expectations in court.

Finn Sullivan

Newburyport, Jr., doubles

The first-year tennis player brought a competitive advantage to the new Newburyport-Triton partnership program. Together with his football team Tomas Jahn to move 7-2 in the first Gemini. Won an epic three set match 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 against Manchester Essex to help the Clippers win the perennial powerhouse 3-2. Swept matches with Amesbury and Pentucket. Appeared as one of the best football players in the area as Newburyport’s primary defender this spring and also played basketball and football this year.
