REUTERS: Opener Janneman Malan broke the fourth-highest score in South Africa’s one-day international history as his injury 177 didn’t help guide tourists on Friday (July 16) in Dublin’s Malahide to a series-matched 70-run victory in Ireland.

Malan dressed 225 in the first gate with an equally impressive Quinton de Kock (120 of 91 balls) as South Africa collected 346 in four of 50 matches before Ireland bowled 276 to 47.1 in response.

Malan hit 16 quarters and six sides while in a 169-ball ball, dropping 11 strokes from South Africa’s Gary Kirstens record 188, which was not against the United Arab Emirates in the 1996 Cricket World Cup.

Ireland were in early trouble indoors as left-hand spinner Keshav Maharaj (2-51) took the fast gates to leave the home team on roll 27 for three.

Simi Singh (100 not ruled out) scored the first ODI century and the best score for the Irishman, who hits number eight with half a century from South African Curtis Campher (54). was the choice of a tourist attack, but they put on the field another sloppy performance that saw several dropped catches.

Ireland won the second ODI in 43 runs on Tuesday after the first game was washed in the rain.

The teams will now compete in the three-day Twenty20 international series on Monday.
