July 16, 2021 game: Rays 7, Braves 6

Its probably just a location more than anything, Braves manager Brian Snitker said. (Chris Martin) has also been really good. He looks good to me. I think the pitch it just performed is where it boils.

After Martins ’turn, Will Smith scored 1-2-3 in the ninth inning with two strokes. Jesse Chavez then let the game-winning undeserved run score in the 10th inning. Chavez (0-2), who had not been allowed to run in his last four appearances before Friday, has 14 strikes in 8 2/3 innings.

2. Morton is 37 years old and is without a doubt the most consistent pitcher in the Braves organization at the moment. On Friday’s loss, the qualifier went six innings and gave just three strokes and six hits, while walking three and hitting eight. He threw 107 fields.

Snitker said before the game that he was amazed at how good the qualifier had been this season.

Charlie did a great job in six (innings), Snitker said after the game. He had trouble, but it was huge when he went six innings.

The Mortons struggled only in the second inning. He beat Austin Meadows to lead the inning, Joey Wendle hit a double to move Meadows to third base and Kevin Kiermaier hit an RBI single. Importer Mike Zuninos made Wendle and led Rays 2-0.

Morton walked two more rays in a inning, but also struck two to leave the inning without further damage.

The problem was the lead over the Meadows hit area, Morton said. The problem was Meadows, and it’s happened where I’ve hit guys with my breaking ball.

Morton has scored 13 strokes this season. Still, it was his Fifth Trip with at least eight strikes.

3. Freddie Freeman was relaxed and used a reserved smile after the game. Despite the loss of the teams, Braves ’first baseman was pleased with the offensive work of both him and the rest of the lineup.

All he could do was sit down and wonder why he was falling on Friday.

At the bottom of the ninth and with a score of 6, the brave sent lead beater Abraham Almonte to the plate. He struck. Freeman hit together as 40,000 fans sang his name. Ozzie Albies struck after Freeman stole another base. Austin Riley, who hit his 15th home of the season in the fourth game, hit the volleyball on the right field to end the inning and send the game into extra innings.

We were all right, Freeman said. We had the right guys where we wanted them, and it just didn’t happen. A loss is a loss. It felt like we had it sliding, everything went perfectly according to plan throughout the game and we had the right guys at the right time.

To lead 10th place Orlando Arcia set off, Dansby Swanson escaped and the newly acquired Joc Pederson set up the game to the end.

Freeman, Riley and Swanson hit both home teams in the game, making up for the absence of injured Ronald Acuna. Arcia also hit the RBI single.

Freemans final Friday night: four hits, two runs, two RBIs.

(I don’t) do my best to get this team into the playoffs, Freeman said. That is my only goal. We know what a stretch it is going to be in terms of trading, so my job is to make it easier (CEO Alex Anthopoulos) to move and increase. I don’t have any distractions at the moment, I just care that I get more runs than the other team.

4. Swanson hit home alone in the fourth inning to give the brave their first shot in the evening. It was his 16th home of the season.

The long shot also extended short strokes to five games. He has nine hits, six RBIs and two home runs in that section.

He’s been turning the bat really well over the last couple of weeks, Snitker said. It has been really encouraging. I hope he continues it.

5. Pederson started the game with applause at the bottom of the tenth. There were two departures, a man on the other and a brave one.

He swung on the first field and leveled off, losing in the sprint to the first base to end the game.

No one is asking anyone to replace Ronald because it’s almost impossible, Freeman said. Jocin, who won last year, has had great moments … he’s a guy who’s a game changer anytime he gets on the plate.

Pederson was activated about two hours before the first pitch after receiving less than 24 hours earlier.

It’s great that Alex shows us who are still going for it, Freeman said of the deal. It’s nice to get him there to go in our lineup every day.
