Annual Golf & Tennis Classic Raises Funds as Need for Camp and Day Care Grants Rises on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, NY The 41st annual Joan & Alan Bernikow’s annual golf and tennis classic recently played for more than 170 people at the Richmond County Country Club.

Proceeds from the JCC Golf and Tennis Classic events, hosted by Alan & Joan Bernikow JCC, will benefit from the Isador Aberlin-Ed Rovner Memorial Scholarship Fund, which honors the memory of two of JCC’s dearest members.

The fund provides grants for JCC day care and summer camp programs for families in financial difficulty. Some of the grants support children at Marvins Camp with special needs.

The co-chairs were Lenore Schwartz and Alan Poritz.

JCC CEO Orit Lender said: These last 16 months have been difficult for everyone, especially children from families in financial difficulty. The children are isolated from each other, so summer camp and day care are very important. Weve saw an increase in the need for camp and day care grants, and we are proud to be able to provide childcare options for families in need.

This was a challenging year for many nonprofits, including JCC, said Rob Myers, vice president of IDB Bank, who introduced the trip. We were happy to be by their side and continue to support them.

The day’s celebrations included brunch, lunch and a $ 10,000 raffle prize.
