Ryu Seung-min, a member of the Korean IOC, has tested a positive COVID-19

TOKYO, July 17 (Yonhap) – Ryu Seung-min, a South Korean member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), tested a new coronavirus on Saturday.

Ryu, who is also president of the Korean Table Tennis Association (KTTA), announced on social media that he had been diagnosed with COVID-19 the day after landing at Narita International Airport outside of Tokyo for the Olympics.

Ryu said he moved to the hotel to isolate himself. He had tested the negative result twice before leaving for Japan and had been fully vaccinated.

Ryu, the 2004 Olympic champion in the men’s singles, said he was asymptomatic, but apologized to anyone he might affect with a positive test.

He said he was awaiting permission to attend the Olympics.
