Nigerias Aruna does the top 15 table tennis sowing – channels on TV

Captain of the Nigerian team at the Tokyo Olympics, Quadri Aruna is listed among the top 15 players in the men’s table tennis singles, which will be kicked off on Friday, July 23 in Japan.

With 65 players competing in the men’s singles and being the most respected African in the world, Aruna is ranked 15th after Frenchman Simon Gauzy.

The Nigerian has been considered one of the star players to watch out for at a table tennis event. He hopes to cross his semi-finals at Rio 2016 in Japan.

Based on his world rankings in Tokyo, Aruna is expecting his first-round opponent when the draws take place this week. Egypt Omar Assar has been sown at 28, while Arunas compatriot Olajide Omotayo has a men’s singles 49.

In the women’s singles, six-time African champion, Egypt’s Dina Meshref has been taken 19th, while Nigerias Offiong Edem has been saturated with 53 athletes competing in 53 women’s singles events. The record-breaking Olufunke Oshonaike, who appears in the seventh game, ranks 60th.

Meanwhile, China’s Fan Zhendong and Chen Meng have been revealed to be the top spots in the men’s and women’s singles categories.

Fan Zhendong, 24, who will be performing for the first time at the Tokyo Olympics, is making an offer to become the sixth Chinese player to take home the men’s singles gold. Meanwhile, fan countrymen and defending champion Ma Long, named seed number one, are trying to regain the magic of five years ago by defending their highly coveted title at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

Sown, third, 18-year-old Tomokazu Harimoto is sure to catch on as the ever-improving teenager seems to lead Japan’s historic first gold medal in the category.

Brazils Hugo Calderano and Chinese Taipeis Lin Yun-Ju have been named fourth and fifth seeds in the men’s singles before Swedish Mattias Falck, London 2012 bronze medalist Dimitrij Ovtcharov and German icon Timo Boll.

The new women’s singles champion will be crowned in the Japanese capital with all eyes firmly attached to two Chinese debuts as the country appears to make it nine gold medals in a row. At the list summit, top-class Chen Meng will lead the way with Sun Yingshan occupying the immediate position below the list. China is also a pioneer in both men’s and women’s team events. Athletic strength aspires to the fourth straight gold medal in both categories.
