Australian Fang Lay wins table tennis

The stunning Jian Fang Lay of Australian table tennis has started his record with a convincing two-handed victory in the Sixth Olympics.

Fang Lay defeated Cuban Daniela Fonseca 11-5 11-7 11-5 14-12 in Saturday’s early round past the match in 25 minutes.

Next, she will play Italian Debora Vivarelli on Saturday night during the first round.

Fang Lay is also at the women’s team event, which starts on Sunday.

Originally, the 48-year-old left the choice in Tokyo, but was appointed to replace Stephanie Sang when she retired for personal reasons.

Fang Lay joins equestrian veteran Mary Hanna as the first Australian woman to compete in the six Olympics.

Born in China, Fang Lay moved to Melbourne in 1994 and got his best Olympic results in Rio, reaching the third round of singles.

Compatriots Heming Hu and Melissa Tapper will also play in a mixed pair on Saturday, taking on the French pair Emmanuel Lebesson and Jia Nan Yuan.
