Cowboys’ Dak Prescott raises Twitter jokes by answering “That HIPAA” vaccine question

Cowboys defender Dak Prescott on Friday ignored the question of whether he had received the COVID-19 vaccine. The reply opened him up for funny comments on Twitter.

Prescott told reporters it wasn’t “quite important” if he was like that. Then he said, “I think it’s HIPAA.”

HIPAA stands for Federal Law on Health Insurance Portability and Liability. Within the law is the protection of patients from healthcare providers who disclose personal information without their knowledge or consent. From U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources website:

What information is protected

Information that your doctor, nurse, and other health care providers add to your patient information
Discussions that your doctor has with your care or treatment with nurses and others
Information about you in the computer system of health insurance companies
Billing information from you at your clinic
Most of the other health information about you is in the possession of those who are required to comply with these laws

Prescott appeals to HIPAA to avoid a yes or no question about the correct application of the vaccine.

His response certainly couldn’t protect him from the following Twitter jokes:

There were also serious tweets because people considered non-response to mean Prescott is unvaccinated. It was also supported that Prescott refused to disclose personal information.

Vaccines are a hot button topic in the NFL on the eve of camps. The league told teams on Thursday that if the game is postponed because the team has COVID-19 among unvaccinated players and cannot be transferred again, the team that got the outbreak will lose the game in a lost way and that players on both teams will not be paid for the game.

Cardinals broad receiver DeAndre Hopkins then said on social media that he didn’t want the vaccine until he said he was “still about 9 years in me,” referring to his football career.
