The West Indies – Australia series continues with new dates

After the postponement of the second match of the series, the teams will face on Saturday and Monday, with 20 points going towards an automatic World Cup qualifier.

The second match was suspended when Alex Carey won the throw and chose to hit on Thursday. A non-gaming member of the West India Department returned a positive test early in the game and forced medical officials from both sides to intervene. After the postponement, a group of 152 players, coaching staff, officials and the television crew have all restored the negative test results, which has allowed the series to continue largely unchanged.

Cricket West Indies President Ricky Skerritt thanked both the team’s boards and the health teams for their work and cooperation.

“I appreciate the crucial role of the BCA and the Government of Barbados in working closely with West Indian cricket to ensure that everything is in place to continue the series,” Skerritt said.

“It’s been a challenging two days and we’ve worked very quickly and safely in accordance with all established drug protocols to ensure that all the necessary precautions are in place to ensure we can continue the game safely tomorrow.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and respond to it.

“We want to thank our colleagues at CA for working together on this when we want to get the games back on track. Special thanks to our CEO Johnny Grave, Earl Eddings, President of Cricket Australia, Nick Hockley, CEO, and similar medical and operational teams.”

Australia started the series well and won by 133 runs (DLS) when Mitchell Starc tore the hosts ’batting order by numbers 5/48. The result rose to third place in the Australian Super League, while West India was ninth, currently outside the automatic qualifiers.

After three sets of matches, West India will remain in Barbados with five T20Is against Pakistan.
