National Cricket Club of Wales is one of twenty national county clubs in the cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents all the historic counties of Wales except Glamorgan and is currently the only non-English member of the National Counties Cricket Championship.
The team is currently a member of the Western Division of the National County Cricket Championship. It joined in 1988 with Somerset’s second eleven exiting the tournament and playing in the NCCA Knockout Trophy. The national counties of Wales played A-matches occasionally between 1993 and 2005, but have not been classified as an A-team in itself.[1]

Club history[edit]
Some counties in Wales previously competed separately in the National County County Cricket Championships. Glamorgan was easily the most successful and became first class in 1921. Others were Carmarthenshire from 1908-1911; Denbighshire from 1930 to 1935; and Monmouthshire from 1901-1934.
Following the withdrawal of Somerset Second XI from national county cricket at the end of the 1987 season, the small counties of Wales became substitutes for national county cricket for the 1988 season. However, the national counties of Wales have not yet won the national county cricket championship or the NCCA relegation trophy.
The club first played A-cricket in 1993 in the NatWest Trophy against Sussex.[2] The club performed in eighteen A-list matches between 1993 and 2005, winning eight and losing ten, most of them against first-class opponents.[2] The national counties of Wales lost the right to play List A cricket when the national counties were excluded from the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy from the 2006 season onwards.[3]
