Olympic MBB: Bonga gets 13 points in Germany in a loss of 92-82 to Italy

The German men’s basketball team lost to Italy, 92-82 in a Group B game. You can watch highlights on YouTube that I would otherwise embed, but the International Olympic Committee has historically quickly hacked videos of highlights compared to the NBA and WNBA, so for now, I won’t embed them.

This game can and should have been a victory for the Germans. They started the game early in the year 32-22 after the first quarter, opposed the return of the Italians in the second quarter and retained the lead in the third. In fact, they led 28 minutes into the game.

However, the Italians continued to drive 12 to steal the game in the fourth quarter. The box scores were fairly even between the teams, although the Italians scored 16 points out of 14 German turnover. It must be dealt with before the next German game against Nigeria on Wednesday 28 July at

Washington Wizards guard Issac Bongo scored 13 points in a 5/8 game while also making a 2/4 three-pointer and giving four passes, while Alba Berlin and former Columbia Lions guard Maodo Lo led the team with 24 points and Moritz Wagner added 12 points.

Here are the others results in the men’s tournament which have taken place so far:

• Czech Republic 84, Iran 78 in Group A Tomas Satoransky scored just 6 points in 2-of-14 shooting, but thanks to a 43-33 recovery margin and no turning of the ball more than the Iranians, the Czechs were able to achieve.
• France 83, United States 76 in group A Evan Fournier scored 28 points in 11-of-22 shooting and scored even in the top three after 57 seconds from the Americans, who were unable to do a single fieldwork in the final four minutes of the game. They were able to at least make most of their free throws.
• Australia 84, Nigeria 67 in group B Patty Mills scored 25 points and Boomer shot 11/24 of three, keeping the DTigers in check. Obi Emegano led Nigeria by 12 points.

Group C games will start tomorrow, most importantly when Japan will play Spain at 8.00 ET tomorrow. Argentina will play Slovenia at 12.40 ET.

The women’s basketball tournament starts later today

The first game is a Group A match between Spain and Korea at 9pm ET (technically on Monday). The United States will play on Tuesday at 12.40 ET against Nigeria in Group B. Belgium and Australia will be the big match of the day when they play a few hours later at 4:20 ET in Group C.
