The Olympics are here, which means it’s time to look at the world records set and force ourselves to confront the reality of international politics. You can enjoy the former without the latter in the awesome Google Doodle that accompanied the games, as speedrunners are already getting into the competitive spirit on Champion Island.
The current world record for a complete run, by any percentage, has dropped to 8 minutes 22 seconds, a time set by Japanese runner wasiyosi today. As the rankings on Speedrun.com show, it’s also a pretty competitive space, as dozens of runners have already posted times within days of the game’s release.
Some of the individual levels are also getting robust competitive scenes. The 86-meter rock climbing game has a stack of entries separated by milliseconds, which last up to 11 seconds, as TheGamer notes. The best time was set by the Brazilian runner yPerna, so the Doodle is definitely an inspiration for international competition.
You can check out the best full run of the game below.
For other RPGs, you can follow that link, although perhaps don’t expect them to scratch the same itch as the Google homepage.
