Several outlets and reports are now stating that Guerrilla Game’s Horizon Forbidden West sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn has been postponed to 2022. This isn’t as surprising as some might expect, especially considering the last time we saw the game. was on State of Play showing footage in May of 2021. Besides a brief mention that things were going well, the radio was silent. With the pandemic and its development effects, a delay like this is perfectly understandable, and it’s better for both gamers and developers to be given more time. Everyone wants the title to be launched in the best possible state, giving developers the best possible working environment.
As for the delay, Jason Schrier reported that he was now targeting the first quarter of 2022. “According to a person familiar with the matter, Sony Corp. has delayed the next PlayStation game Horizon Forbidden West to Q1. 2022, “he said. “The original rumor was that Sony hasn’t decided yet, but I understand that the game has been postponed a while ago.” With this delay, PlayStation no longer has a holiday title for this year. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and Death Stranding Director’s Cut, two remastered and expanded titles for PlayStation 4, will launch in August and September respectively, but these are the only other titles currently slated for the year.
Sony will definitely update players on when Horizon Forbidden West is due to launch, as we are about to enter August, which is approaching the 2021 holidays with no release date. Rumors say the company plans to hold a progress presentation in September to show God of War: Raganrock and Horizon Forbidden West, but we expect a delayed announcement ahead of time considering it’s a big deal for all parties involved.
