Work begins on the new Sandvik Coromant headquarters

Work has begun on the new UK headquarters in the Black Country for Swedish engineering firm Sandvik Coromant.

Birmingham-based developer Stoford is leading the project in Halesowen which will house a new high-tech manufacturing and innovation center for metal cutting after the company has signed a preliminary lease for the self-contained land on the A456 Manor Way .

The facility will cover 18,015 square feet, replacing an existing warehouse building with offices undergoing demolition and has 130 parking spaces.

These include 26 electric charging points, but the company said there is room to fit them into all 130 spaces in the future.

The development is under construction on land near Sandvik Coromant’s current UK headquarters in Halesowen, where it has been based since 1958 and will leave once the new base is ready for occupation.

UK Sales Director David Harbon said: “The refurbishment of the facility has come a long time ago.

“Even though we found that our current space no longer suited our needs, this new facility will be completely future-proof.

“Not only will the state-of-the-art, green site deliver a high experience for our UK staff, we are transforming the site into more than just an office.

“Our ambition is to create a true hub of innovation for metal cutting in the UK.”

Frontier Development Capital organized the development financing and Benniman was appointed building contractor to deliver the new development.
