The latest tests show that Microsoft is trying to make its console more user-friendly.
Microsoft
Microsoft is testing a couple of new features for Xbox Series X users. A couple of weeks ago, Xbox program manager Jon Hood wrote a blog post announcing that the game console was testing Night Mode with the its users Alpha Skip-Ahead. And on Monday, Hood posted another post describing a new 4K dashboard test for those same users.
These features are small quality of life changes that should make the X Series easier and more comfortable to use. The console probably needs all the help it can get as it tries to keep up with Sony’s PlayStation 5, which topped 10 million units earlier this year. Microsoft has not released sales numbers for the X Series.

Changes to the night mode allow users to dim the screen and apply night filters. You no longer have to blind yourself during Resident Evil night sessions. Meanwhile, the 4K dashboard offers a nice visual upgrade for gamers playing on 4K resolution screens.
Microsoft did not indicate how long these features would be in testing or when they would be rolled out to the broader user base. Of course, the biggest challenge remains finding an X Series or PS5 console, as units remain notoriously hard to find.
