BLACKSBURG In collaboration with its partner site Sidearm Sports, Virginia Tech’s athletics department launched a redesigned HokieSports.com Wednesday, taking another step in its commitment to the fan experience through digital innovation.
“Over two million people visit HokieSports.com every year,” said Brad Wurthman, VT Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations. “As a department, we are committed to improving the fan experience, both in person and digitally. We have reevaluated all of our digital touchpoints over the past year and I am incredibly proud of Kyle Bruce, Damian Salas, Lance Dozier and the rest of the Digital Strategy and Innovation team that made this digital upgrade possible. “
The redesigned HokieSports.com keeps the athletics department at the forefront with an eye on industry trends in ecommerce and content consumption. The site uses a simplified layout to leverage a variety of content by adding tools and features that improve the overall user experience.
“This redesign took a year of work and we are thrilled to finally unveil it to the entire Hokie Nation,” said Bruce, Assistant CEO of Digital Strategy & Ecosystem. “Thanks to everyone who worked on this project internally, especially Damian Salas, without whose passion, care and dedication this redesign would not have been possible. We are also fortunate to have great partners like SIDEARM Sports and LEARFIELD who share our passion. for innovation in the digital space, and we are grateful for their time and assistance in helping bring this site to life. “
New HokieSports.com Features Include:
A hub for trending topics and important links on both the main home page and sports home pages designed to direct users to the most timely and relevant information A social media inspired feature at the top of the main home page designed to further promote important announcements and sports coverage showing high quality photos, videos and graphics Various modules both on the main home page, sports home pages, program and list pages encouraging users to subscribe to Tech Athletics emails, give a gift at the Hokie Club, buy tickets to upcoming events and more A refocused presentation of content on the main home page and sports home pages in a vertical feed that includes news articles, featured videos, photo galleries, podcast episodes and more An updated menu navigation, including the addition of a “Connect” tab that met te highlights the various ways tech fans can stay in touch with the Hokies “We are very excited about the new features on HokieSports.com. The ‘Moments’ section at the top of the site, which is a first in the collegiate website space, offers a dynamic way for our fans to interact with the site and stay up to date with their favorite teams, “said Salas, Senior Director & Webmaster. “As our departmental content offerings continue to evolve, having a flexible home page will allow us to share a wide range of media, from news articles to podcast interviews and video highlights.”
Tech Athletics has also enhanced its official HokieSports mobile app, adding mobile ticket integration and an updated platform for Maroon & Orange Memories. The mobile app is available for download on both iOS and Android.
