Google reveals the most unique pumpkin spice searches in each state

Summer is not over yet, but it is about to end. With autumn around the corner, people everywhere are preparing for pumpkin season. According to this Google map, searches for anything from Pumpkin Spice Ramen to Pumpkin Spice Martini to Pumpkin Spice Scented Candles have skyrocketed across the country. While the data shows that people in all 50 states are switching to pumpkin mode, it also suggests that how they are doing it depends on location.

Worldwide, searches for Pumpkin Spice Latte peaked across the country as soon as September began. According to data from Google, this is true every year. In the last week alone, the most searched latte has been “pumpkin spice latte”, possibly because the fall favorite recently returned from Dunkin ‘and Starbucks. Additionally, searches for items like “pumpkin spice cheesecake enchiladas” and “pumpkin milk spice hair color” increased by 1000% and 450%, respectively.

At the regional level, however, the fall searches look very different. According to the Google data map, “pumpkin spice cream” was the most popular search in Maine, Kentucky, and New Mexico. In Michigan, Nevada and Oregon, “pumpkin spice syrup” reigned supreme over the search engine. Apparently Pumpkin Spice Ramen was on the minds of people in Alabama, Texas, and Vermont, where Google noticed it was trending. You know what they say, don’t knock until you’ve tried it.

According to Google, while most of the trends seemed to be centered around coffee, there were plenty of other pumpkin recipes in the mix. People also sought out pumpkin spice muffins, pumpkin spice cupcakes, pumpkin spice cinnamon rolls, and pumpkin spice cookies. In Florida and South Carolina, searches covered all spice and pumpkin margaritas. If you can’t have fall leaves, you should at least get a beach drink that looks a bit like fall.

Pumpkin has been the main focus of most Google searches over the past week, but other trends suggest that some people have been thinking other ways. Google data shows that lasagna soup, callaloo soup, fresh tomato soup, and Tom kha soup were also popular searches. Time to switch to soup mode, after all.

As much as we wish summer could last forever, it seems like it’s time to indulge in autumn and the flavors that come with it, even if you do so reluctantly.
