Aloy deserves to be in the collaboration with Genshin Impact and in the world in which it exists. I’m not saying this just because he’s a great character. I like to see her thrive in Teyvat, who is kinder to her than her own Earth has ever been.
The heroine of Horizon Zero Dawns was released for the gacha game on September 1st, along with the major Genshin Impact 2.1 update. At adventure level 20, players who log into a PlayStation console can obtain it by accessing in-game messages. Those who play on PC or on mobile devices will have to wait for the 2.2 update.
Both Genshin Impact and Horizon Zero Dawn take place in worlds shaped by the gods, and both place a strong emphasis on exploring an unnatural world. However, the world of Horizon Zero Dawn is a ruthless and harsh place that doesn’t look kindly on strangers like Aloy. In contrast, Teyvat, the world in Genshin Impact, primarily accepts others, and soldiers from each nation are tasked with defending those who are too weak to protect themselves. Aloy requires physical and mental strength to survive in his world. Genshin Impact frees you from that burden.
Despite being a promotional character, Aloy plays pretty well for a unit I’ve just started building. It’s been a few years since I played Horizon Zero Dawn, but I could feel the parallels when I used its ranged attacks. Unfortunately, her own lore also locks her in the bow class. It makes perfect sense for her huntress background, but I usually switch my archers after using their elemental burst attack. The class is not even known to be popular with most Genshin players.
It’s a shame as Aloy is a free five-star character. The five stars are considered to be the most powerful characters in the game and their extreme rarity reflects their fighting prowess. But it takes an immense amount of resources to maximize newly acquired characters, so I can’t experience its full potential right away. Im ready to change Aloy whenever an enemy approaches.

Unless a player has amassed the necessary resources to invest in her immediately, most players will have a hard time using Aloy in combat. This is because the levels of the enemies in Genshin Impact are tied to the world level, which increases with the experience of the players. So I stayed with my level 40 Aloy and tried to protect her from being hit by a single hit from level 78 enemies.
Fortunately, Aloy is still useful. It has cryogenic abilities, so I used it to set up reactions like melting, freezing, and superconducting. And since using it in combat is still disappointing for now, I took it to the Mondstadt departure area. That was where it really shone. I really enjoy hunting in this game and its passive ability has allowed me to sneak up on unsuspecting animals with anyone in the group. While Anemo Sayu’s character shares a similar ability for insects, the Aloys passive is for animals that specifically release food, giving her a unique advantage.

Despite how well integrated she is as a crossover character, Aloy is still portrayed as an outsider. It currently has no constellation upgrades, a trait that only protagonist Genshin possesses. Unlike every other recruitable character, she doesn’t have a favorite furniture set either.
Even more curiously, Aloy is missing a Cryo Vision despite being an ice arch user. Each recruitable character in Genshin Impact has a vision to indicate that they have been chosen by the gods. Although the protagonist is also a stranger who lacks a Vision, they still rely on the blessings of the archons. Aloy gets along well with his Predator bow and the ice grenades he uses in his elemental attacks.
Horizon Zero Dawn fans don’t have to worry about Aloys’ lore. As far as I could tell, his vocal lines and references are quite faithful to his game. What made me think were some of his dialogues in the Serenitea residential area. He expressed his preference for his old world despite admitting it was a much more dangerous place to live. But I remember how crude Horizon Zero Dawn was at the start of the game. Without all its updates, I spent most of my time sneaking around dangerous machines. Aloy doesn’t have to hide so much in a party game where her teammates might throw a shield at her or heal her if she’s injured.
I couldn’t help but think that her younger self would not survive in her world without Rost. Mondstadt, on the other hand, is a place where children can experience unsupervised adventures and people spend more free time in their spare time than in survival.
As much as Aloy tried to adapt to Teyvat, it was obvious that she liked being here. She has a joke about how the people in Teyvat are kinder than the Nora who raised her. She looked joyful when I used her to glide in the wind. She could be a normal girl rather than the savior of humanity. And being someone who could laugh so freely doesn’t disqualify her from being a hero.
As long as her world wasn’t on fire, Teyvat is exactly where Aloy needs to be.
