Google has a reason to celebrate because the Google Fit app just passed 100 million installs on Android. The development was first noticed by Android Police and is a milestone as the tech giant’s fitness app surpassed 100 million two years after hitting 50 million downloads on the Google Play Store in 2019.

Originally launched in 2014, the app wasn’t very popular with users. In 2018, it underwent a revamp that allowed for more data collection on things like step tracking, heart rate tracking and workouts. Its recent update includes better support for sleep tracking via the 2nd Gen Nest Hub and heart rate tracking with a Pixel smartphone.
The recent Google Fit update was Fit 2.61 which allows users to view health data organized into six categories: activity, nutrition, vital signs, body measurements, sleep, and menstrual cycle. The Browse tab now organizes data better than the tabs on the home page and the floating action button.
The iOS version of Google Fit allows the app to emerge multiple types of data from the Apple Health backend. Allows users to see connected apps by tapping the overflow menu in each section of the Google account settings.
In the July update, Google changed the way calories consumed and cumulative distance are calculated to make it easier for other apps to connect to Google Fit. This data is used to calculate more detailed metrics for some activities. ”These, however, don’t include what users see directly in Fit apps.
