Apple says it won’t allow Epic Games to return to the App Store until it agrees to play by the same rules as everyone else. Today, Epic asked Apple to reset its developer account so it could re-release the iOS version of Fortnite in South Korea, which recently passed a bill requiring Apple and Google to allow alternative in-app payment systems. .

Apple, however, has no obligation to allow Epic access to the App Store. As we’ve always said, we would welcome Epics back to the App Store if they agreed to play by the same rules as everyone else, an Apple spokesperson said in a statement to The Verge. Epic has admitted that it violated the contract and, at the moment, there is no legitimate basis for restoring your developer account.

South Korean legislation has not yet entered into force, but if and when it does, according to Apple, it will have no bearing on the company’s process for approving developer accounts. Until Epic agrees to abide by the App Store app review guidelines, Apple will not consider your request.

Fortnite, one of the most popular video games in the world, has not been available on the App Store since August last year. Eventually, Apple shut down Epics’ developer account in response to a Fortnite update that avoided the App Store’s in-app payment requirement to avoid paying Apple the 30% cut. Epic then sued Apple and went to court in May, with a verdict yet to come.
