The CFO publisher “FIFA” Electronic Arts will step down next year

Sep 30 (Reuters) – Electronic Arts Inc (EA.O) said Thursday that its CFO Blake Jorgensen is expected to step down in the summer of 2022 and the video game publisher will soon begin the search for its new CFO.

Jorgensen, who has been the company’s chief financial officer for over a decade, will help with the transition when a new CFO is appointed.

The development comes on the eve of the launch season, with the company releasing the much anticipated “FIFA 22” title on Friday and “Apex Legends: Escape” and “Battlefield 2042” in November.

Jorgensen’s other role as COO will be taken on by company insider Laura Miele, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said.

Miele, who has worked with the company since 1998, has been EA’s chief studios officer since April 2018. He will take on the new role in the coming months.

Video game creators have emerged as clear winners of the pandemic after blockages prompted people to spend more time and money on games.

With millions of new players, video game publishers are working to enrich the user experience by adding interactive and social features to their popular titles.

However, EA faced stiff competition from Epic Games Inc’s “Fortnite” and Roblox Corp (RBLX.N) which allow users to create a metaverse and interact with other players within games.

In an effort to reinforce similar social characteristics, Redwood City, Calif.-Based EA also named marketing manager Chris Bruzzo as its chief experience officer on Thursday.

“Games have meaning to us even when we’re not playing and we have tremendous opportunities to engage players beyond the boundaries of the traditional gaming experience,” said Wilson.
