Twitter test tool to inform users about heated conversations

Twitter is testing a tool that warns users before they scroll further into a potentially heated conversation.

The social media giant tweeted Wednesday about the test, which is taking place on Android and iOS devices. The alert tool reminds users to communicate respectfully and understand that there will be different perspectives. Fact-checking is also encouraged.

Ever wanted to know the mood of a conversation before joining? We were testing prompts on Android and iOS that warned you if the convo you are about to enter could get heated or intense.

Last month, Twitter revealed its new tool along with a number of other tests and features, including the ability to filter out offensive language and automatically block accounts similar to those you’ve already blocked. Users will soon also be able to tip using bitcoin and NFT authentication has also been considered. Twitter says it will continue to collect test feedback as data becomes available.

Twitter also recently launched a test to allow users to join groups and tweet about specific topics with Twitter-approved moderators, similar to Facebook groups. “Community” is part of Twitter’s effort to make it easier for users to find conversations and topics they’re interested in.
