The iPhone 13 is here and there are plenty of ways you can customize it before it even reaches your door. (You can also customize it with wallpaper, app icons, and settings changes after you get it.) You probably know which carrier you want your phone on, and you probably have a good idea which MagSafe accessories you want to pair with your new phone. In fact, you probably already know how much storage you want, based on how full your existing phone is. But what about the colors?

This year there are five different color options for the iPhone 13 (including millennial pink) and four options if you use the iPhone 13 Pro or Pro Max. Whichever color you choose, it will stay with you for at least the next two years. If you’re not sure which one is best for you, I have a quick explanation of each to help you out.

You’ve almost certainly owned a black or dark gray phone before. There’s a reason it’s a classic color, it looks great with almost any accessory, and if you use it without a case you’re less likely to see scratches on the black glass. The same cannot be said of the metal band around the outside of the phone, which in the past has revealed the silver underneath when scratched deeply enough.

Put simply, this is the color you get if you don’t care what color your phone is or if your phone will live in a case for as long as you own it anyway.

White has been the default alternative option for the iPhone almost from the start, and with good reason. It looks great, and unlike the other color options, it’s much harder to see scratches on the glass and metal band around the outer edge of the body.

The Starlight version of the iPhone also lends itself well to decals and textured patterns, having a brightly colored surface with a bright white base looks amazing, offering extra protection in case you decide you don’t need a case.

Apple

Apple has previously released the Product Red version of the iPhone separately from the primary colors, but this year it’s one of the best options. This crisp color stands out in every possible way no matter what lighting you’re in, making it much more difficult to accidentally lose it in the sofa cushions. Every Apple product with the Product Red label sold means a donation to HIV / AIDS treatment programs (though Apple never said how much).

Apple

Apple fans have been asking for a pink option for a long time. Not a metallic rose gold, but a real rose. And here it is, now you can own a pink iPhone. It’s also a muted color, not as strong as the Product Red or blue options, so if you’d prefer your phone to have some personality without attracting too much attention in public, this is the phone for you. Also, because it’s such a light shade, scratches on the body are likely to be much less visible than on other models.

Apple

Apple hasn’t given this color an exaggerated name like starlight or midnight, because it’s not necessary. You know exactly what color this is when you see it. This phone is blue, in fact it is the bluest phone you can buy today and includes the faded looking sierra blue offered by the iPhone 13 Pro this year. It’s a phone that stands out everywhere and almost requires you to use a clear case if you’re going to be using one.

Apple

The matte black of the iPhone 13 Pro graphite is the choice you make when you are not interested in showing your phone. Whether you know your iPhone will live in its case for as long as you own it or you’re not that interested in expressing yourself through color, this is your default option. It’s a solid option, in fact it’s the original color and the fact that it’s not exciting or new shouldn’t put you off.

Apple

Each year Apple has a new color option for the iPhone and this year the new color is Sierra Blue. It’s a much brighter, brighter shade of blue than last year’s Pacific blue, which in some lighting conditions would be so graphite-like that you could barely tell them apart. This iPhone 13 Pro is undeniably blue and will grab attention everywhere. This is the perfect iPhone for anyone who wants to use their phone with a clear case or no case and let everyone know they have the latest gadget.

Apple

It’s not as catchy a name as starlight, but the iPhone 13 Pro silver is a classic color with a lot of style. Not only is it a nice light color that will look good under a textured decal, but if you can scratch the silver version of the phone it will be much harder to notice the damage due to the fact that it is much closer to the natural color of the metal and the more glass. clear are more reflective. This is a great iPhone for anyone who can’t stand owning all matte black and would appreciate a lighter touch.

Apple

Apple has made many gold-colored products and they are all slightly different. There have been many attempts to play with different shades of gold, including a Champagne and the infamous rose gold. This year’s iPhone is a classic light golden hue. It’s less obvious than the standard shade of gold you’d find on a watch, with fewer yellows and a generally softer look. It is the perfect color for those who appreciate gold but have no interest in talking loudly about it.
