Ahead of tomorrow’s big Pixel Fall Launch event, Google and Japanese artist Kaze Fujii are teasing a music video shot on the Pixel 6.
Update: The complete “MO-EH-YO” music video, shot on Google Pixel 6, is now available.
Up until this point, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have leaked almost in their entirety, including specs, benchmarks, price leaks, and even Google itself showing the phone’s design. One thing we haven’t seen much about is just how capable the Pixel 6 is of taking photos and videos, outside of a single set of examples taken under less-than-ideal conditions.
As noted by This is Tech Today, we take our first official look at a video made on a Pixel 6 series device, thanks to an incoming music video from Kaze Fujii. Although the full video won’t be out until October 24, well after Google pulled coverage from the phone, Fujii shared a teaser for “MO-EH-YO” (or “Ignite”) that appears to feature 15 seconds of footage from the Pixel 6.
Unfortunately, there’s not much we can say about the Pixel 6’s camera quality from the video teaser, especially since it’s entirely black and white. The teaser is also not available in 4K, which makes it harder to see any potential details that may be present.
That said, from what we have, the fine details in Fujii’s hair and jacket appear to be sharp and well defined, even on the go. While it’s far from a definitive look at the Pixel 6 camera, this music video’s first tease shows promise for Google’s video capabilities this year.
Interestingly, as explained on Google’s promotional site, the music video’s debut on YouTube will be preceded by a series of five 30-second short films that are broadcast sequentially on five different television channels in Japan’s largest cities, forming a “prologue” to the video. . It’s likely that this prologue was shot with the Pixel 6 too, just like the main video, although that’s not confirmed on the page.
Update 24/10: Just on schedule, Google and Kaze Fujii released the full four and a half minute music video for “MO-EH-YO”, giving us the longest example of Pixel 6 series video prior to its release on October 28.
While the video footage was actually shot on the Pixel 6, it’s important to remember that, being a prominent music video, high-end equipment such as gimbals and cranes, as well as professional editing of the footage, were likely in use.
That said, there are certainly many aspects of the “MO-EH-YO” music video that speak to the Pixel 6’s video prowess, including the level of detail visible in city scenes and the impressive bokeh in close-ups. Unfortunately, there’s only so much we can judge from the video, as it’s only available in 1080p, while the Pixel 6 is capable of filming up to 4K.
It’s not clear exactly which model the music video and teaser were shot on. The promotional website refers almost exclusively to “Google Pixel 6,” but the images on the site show the high-end Pixel 6 Pro.
This isn’t the first time Google has done a special promotion for the Pixel 6 in Japan. Last month, the company celebrated the imminent debut of Google’s Tensor chips by releasing packs of “Google Original.” [Potato] French fries.”
