Innovations in Health and Wellness One third of the 20 winning apps this year belong to the field of health and wellness and offer solutions to address physical, mental and social health.
The story continues
For example, Singapore’s “Plano” is a scientific parental control and eye health app for parents and children. The app integrates with HMS’s machine learning kit (ML Kit) to allow live camera preview to detect baby’s posture and distance from the screen when in active mode. The app was also the only one to receive two awards this year, for the “Best Social Impact Award” and the “Most Popular App Award”.
Winning the newly added Tech’s Women’s Award, the “Bloodbank” app connects blood banks, donors and recipients on one common platform. Developed by three developer students from Tunku Abdul Rahman University (UTAR) Malaysia, the female team member played a crucial role in developing the “Request for Blood” feature, which allows blood recipients to record their requests in detail, indicate the hospital location, type and unit requested easily via the app.
Winner of the best HMS Core Innovation Award – “Land of Calm” improves the user’s mental health by providing sound-guided meditations, breathing exercises, stories and relaxing music. The sound-guided and narration functions are made possible by the use of Audio Kit and the speech synthesis capabilities of ML Kit.
Game Apps Ranked Top According to App Annie, games are the most downloaded app category globally in 2020, with over 40% percent of all downloads. Echoing the global trend, it wasn’t a surprise to see gaming apps make it to the final. Five of AppsUP2021’s winners were games, ranging from RPGs to puzzle games.
Both of the “Best Game Award” winning apps are from Vietnam. “Color Ball Adventure” is an adventure game in which players control a colored ball to overcome obstacles. While “Stick Clash” is a stickman puzzle strategy game where players control an army of stick figures to traverse over 350 levels.
One of the AppGallery Rising Star Award winners, “CandyBots Alphabet ABC Tracing” makes your child’s learning process playful. The app allows kids to practice letter tracing, use flashcards to write new words, and even watch cartoons to expand their vocabulary.
Encouraging app creativity at all levels of developers Since its global launch in April 2018, HUAWEI’s app store, AppGallery, has grown to become the top three largest app markets with over 560 million monthly active users worldwide. By the end of September 2021, the number of developers in the Huawei ecosystem also reached 5.1 million.
This ecosystem growth also reflects an opportunity for app developers, as can be seen from the results of AppsUP 2021. In APAC, this year’s competition saw nearly 50% more team registrations and nearly double the number of app submissions compared to the previous year
“AppsUP 2021 complements other resources and programs available to developers in the region to fuel innovation across the HMS ecosystem. The newly added award categories have attracted tremendous interest from a broader group of developers. Most notably the Rising AppGallery Star Award, the Excellent Student Award and the Tech Women’s Award, which provides a platform for budding developers, women and students to realize the creativity of their app and get rewarded through this initiative, “said Shane Shan, Director of Huawei Asia Pacific Consumer Cloud Service.
“HMS would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the winners of this year’s AppsUP 2021 APAC competition. We hope that all developers can continue to innovate in HMS’s fully open ecosystem; together, we can build a fully connected and intelligent world.” Shan added.
All the winning apps are now available on the HUAWEI AppGallery for download and use by users. For the full list of winners, please visit: https://bit.ly/appsupapac-top20winners.
