Call of Duty: Vanguard is the next installment in the acclaimed first person shooter series and this installment sends players into World War II. Vanguard will be integrated into the Warzone and Black Ops Cold War ecosystem, but this time around, the mega-popular battle royale will receive a new map called “Caldera” that will launch alongside Vanguard. The Caldera rollout will be the most substantial change in Warzone history, as it will mark the departure of Verdansk, who has been in the game since day one. In 2021, Verdansk underwent a slight alteration with its 1984 edition, but most of the map layout remained intact. For the first time ever, Warzone will receive a brand new map when the Vanguard integration is completed. Warzone’s new map, Caldera, will be rolled out on December 2, along with the integration of Vanguard and the game’s first season of content. However, players who purchase Vanguard get 24-hour early access to the integration, including the Caldera map.

Additionally, Rebirth Island will remain, although it’s unclear what kind of changes (if any) will be made. However, Verdansk will cease to exist, at least based on Activision’s own wording.

Although details have not been revealed, Activision has shown some new footage of the Warzone Pacific map. Based on that alone, it appears to be a game changer.

The most obvious change is in the color palette, which will be more vibrant than Verdansk, with a greater emphasis on a variety of biomes than you would see during WWII. Verdansk has always appeared muted with many brown, tan and gray colors that have never looked as good as many other contemporary shooters.

In addition to the colors, the new Warzone Caldera map will have rivers and waterfalls running, which is a huge leap forward. Hopefully this gives the map a dynamic feel, with immersion at the forefront.

The other main aspect is that the new map seems to lean much more on nature than in Verdansk. While Caldera will surely have its fair share of buildings and urban areas, much of it is covered in hills, mountains, trees, and varied terrain. There was also a cave that appeared during the short teaser, which could be really interesting from a gameplay standpoint.

The emphasis on nature will ideally make traversing the map more fun, as presumably there will be more coverage, with multiple ways to get around.

“Our goal was to create a fresh and new experience for Call of Duty players by stepping out of the war-torn world of Verdansk,” said Hodge. “[We wanted to] create a vibrant, lively atmosphere that really opens the door to how we can create narratives and events. “

Finally, one of the biggest changes is the implementation of planes, which will allow players to compete in dogfights. Verticality will be an important factor with Caldera.

Remember, all your progress from Modern Warfare, Cold War, and now Vanguard will carry over to Warzone once the integration takes place on December 2nd.

In addition to the new Pacific map, Warzone will finally have an anti-cheat system along with Vanguard integration. Since its launch, Warzone has been plagued with cheaters and as time has passed, the problem has only gotten worse.

The anti-cheat software is called Ricochet, and it appears to be sophisticated enough to run on someone’s computer backend, rather than on an account. This will prevent users from simply creating a new account when they are banned. This will also air on December 2nd.

Call of Duty: Vanguard will launch on November 5th, while Warzone Pacific will be released on December 2nd.
