Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro get Ghost Calling bug fix via Google’s latest app

The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro received a fix for a ghost call bug that was spotted earlier this month. The problem was causing the Google Assistant to make random phone calls on the new Pixel phones. Google fixed the bug on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro by releasing an update to the preloaded Google app. The new update comes just days after Google added heart rate tracking to the Pixel 6 series via the Google Fit app.

A Pixel Community Manager confirmed the ghost call bug fix. It was implemented via the latest Google app (version 12.43.18 and above) available for download via Google Play. You can also get the updated Google app by sideloading its APK file available via APKMirror.

The ghost call bug started affecting some Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users shortly after the launch of the new phones. Some users have reported incidents of random calls to their contacts even when their Pixel phones were not in use. Google Assistant has been found to be the reason for making ghost calls, due to misunderstanding sounds that trigger the “Hey Google” hotword followed by the command to make calls to phone contacts.

Some of the affected users noticed that the problem could be solved manually by disabling the “Assistant responses on lock screen” feature. This, however, makes the Google Assistant unresponsive unless the phone is unlocked.

Last week, Google began rolling out heart rate and breathing tracking features via the Google Fit app. Both of these features are already available on the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a.

Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are also affected by problems with the fingerprint scanner that have yet to be fixed by Google. In some cases, the new Pixel models appear to unlock the screen even using unregistered fingerprints. The fingerprint scanner also appears to cause irregular delays in unlocking devices.
