The Skyrim Anniversary Edition comparison video notes that the PS5 has the fastest loading times

A Skyrim Anniversary Edition comparison video highlighted what has changed in the definitive version of the classic Bethesda title.

According to Digital Foundry, the channel responsible for creating the comparison video, one of the most impressive things about the all-new Skyrim Anniversary Edition is the new load times on PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. As demonstrated in the video, the PS5 is in capable of providing loading times of around 2.65 seconds, a big improvement over the PS4 Pro (via backwards compatibility) which took around 15.20 seconds to load a scene.

As for the Xbox Series X and S versions, Digital Foundry testing found that the PS5 performed slightly better in terms of load times with the Xbox Series X coming in at 4.22 seconds and the S Series at 4. 77 seconds. Which, while very small, is a noticeable difference from the PS5 version.

The video also looked at the Skyrim Anniversary Edition framerates on all three of the next-gen consoles in question and found that on PS5 they were able to achieve comparable results to the 60fps mod on previous-generation consoles. The game’s resolution manages to keep its 4K graphics and 60fps locked in most areas, with the exception of the dragon battles which reduce the framerate in the 50fps range.

For Xbox Series X, it’s a similar story, this version of Skyrim also manages to keep 60fps, but sometimes drops slightly, again, usually when there’s some sort of dragon battle going on. As for the Xbox Series S, not much has changed from the previous version of the game when running on a 60fps mod. The framerate drops where you would usually expect it to drop in the 1950s, again when facing a dragon head-on.

So, if you’re not sure which console you should be playing Skyrim Anniversary Edition on, the answer is that it really doesn’t really matter. If you are lucky enough to have all three consoles and want to play two seconds earlier, then you should be playing the PS5 version. However, if you only have an Xbox, for example, you won’t notice much difference as all three versions of the game have seen nearly equal improvements since Skyrim – Special Edition, when run with a 60fps mod.
