In February, 9to5Mac reported the launch of a goal-focused Slack competitor called Quill. Today Twitter is bringing Quill under its wing and the team chat app as it exists today will no longer exist.
Quill announced the news about the Twitter acquisition in a blog post:
We founded Quill with the aim of increasing the quality of human communication. We believe that the tools we use to communicate today are not the best they can be. Together with Twitter, we will continue to pursue our original goal: to make online communication more thoughtful and effective for everyone.
Quill users now have a few days to export team messages before the service clears its server on Saturday, December 11th. In an FAQ listed below the announcement, the company gives admins the steps to export team messages from Quill and import them into Slack. However, direct messages are not exportable.
While I’ve never been able to personally try Quill, I’m curious what the acquisition will mean for Twitter as a communications service in the future.
“We can’t wait to show you what we’ll be working on next,” Quill says at the end of his announcement.
