GLIAC – Members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Davenport University and Michigan Tech University, are two of 43 Division II schools to receive the Presidents’ Award for Academic Excellence for achieving an academic success rate (ASR) of 90 % or higher.
Davenport earned an ASR of 96% while Michigan Tech was 93%.
ASR Division II includes transfers to a school in the calculation and removes transfers that left the school while academically eligible. The ASR also includes the more than 31,000 non-scholarship student-athletes who were enrolled in the four years covered by the most recent data.
Even when using the less inclusive federal graduation rates, student-athletes perform 8% better than their peers in the general student population. For Division II athletes, the federal rate increased 1 percentage point to 60% and the overall student body increased 1 percentage point to 52%.
Davenport and Michigan Tech also received the Presidents’ Award for Academic Excellence in 2020.
