Amazon’s AWS records its third outage this month, hitting Slack, Epic Games Store, Asana, and more

Amazon’s core web services business, AWS, is having problems today, with issues affecting services like Slack, Imgur, and the Epic Games store for some users. Not good if you work from home, with some Slack users not being able to view or upload images, and the Asana work management tool has also been affected by the interruptions.

In an update on the incident, Slack said its services “are having problems with uploading files, editing messages and other services.” Asana states that the problems constitute a “major disruption”, with “many of our users not being able to access Asana”. Epic Games Store said “Internet service outages” are “affecting logins, library, purchases, etc.”

This is the third time in weeks that problems with AWS have had a significant effect on online services. Two incidents earlier this month involving AWS ended up wiping out a wide range of platforms and products, wiping out streaming sites like Netflix and Disney Plus and smart home devices like Ring and Wyze’s security cameras.

Today’s outages seem less common but still notable, with some users unable to fully access services and others experiencing only intermittent failures. DownDetector.com shows reports of issues with the aforementioned platforms, as well as the Flipboard news aggregator, the Udemy online learning site, the Grindr dating app, the Hulu streaming service, and the IoT services of Honeywell, Life360 and SmartThings of Samsung.
