LG Display wants to make OLED panels more appealing to consumers and is showing some concepts ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show in January.

The OLED shelf concept uses two 55-inch clear OLED displays that LG Display initially released in 2019. They are 40% transparent, but according to The Verge, LG’s concept includes an opaque sheet that can roll down “like it does. projector screen. “to make the images more saturated.

One display sits above the other, as distinguishable by the visible horizontal line dividing the two, and the pair have a mantel-like shelf on top.

LG’s clear OLED panels can currently be found in shopping malls, subways and museums. The technology pleases commercial customers with its slim build and light weight, and the transparent displays are typically 1080p. The OLED shelf, on the other hand, is a demonstration of how the technology could be used in the living room.

LG wants the OLED shelf to look like living room décor, a concept we’ve already seen in products like LG’s Gallery series and Samsung Frame TVs.

Since OLED screens are transparent, you could, in theory, put other artwork or photos behind them that would be visible when the display isn’t in use. You could also, for example, see a work of art on one display and a TV show on another.

As this is a concept, the OLED shelf may never be able to store … the shelves.
