Google app “Open web pages in app” function not working or not working

[ad_1]

New updates are added at the bottom of this story …….

The original story (released January 07, 2022) follows:

The Google app is one of the most used apps on Android devices. It is one of the main parts of Google’s app package and is pre-installed on most Android devices.

It allows users to search the internet, use voice commands, search using Google Lens, and also includes the Discover feed.

But lately, users have been reporting a number of issues affecting the app such as that where users are unable to turn off trending searches on the homepage and the app breaking dark mode for some Pixel owners.

And now, Google app users claim they are unable to “Open web pages in the app”. People say the problem persists even if they install and configure Chrome.

For some, the toggle is off while others claim that even if it’s enabled, the feature doesn’t work as expected.

my phone randomly stopped using google search and uses chrome or samsung internet instead. I just want to go back to using google search and everyone I ask makes me feel stupid because I don’t know the answer. I know you can’t set Google search as the default, but I’ve been using it for nearly three years with no problems and then suddenly my phone won’t open web pages in the Google search app anymore. I tried to change it to Chrome but the settings in general still say “open and configure Chrome to enable this option” which means I can’t activate “open web pages in app” to continue using Google search as I want. Just today I noticed that every time I opened a webpage from the Google app, it opened in Chrome. I went to the Google app settings and the “Open web pages in app” option was cleared and it said “open and configure Chrome to enable this option”. Chrome is already set up on my device and when I tried to disable Chrome to force Google to use, it opened another browser app I had. Please help me! (Source)

Many say that the first thing they tried to do was reset the Google and Chrome app, but these solutions don’t help to fix the problem.

It’s really frustrating for those using the Google app to read the news, among other things, as it helps them get back to the app easily as links open in the app itself.

Thankfully, a Gold Product Expert from the Google community commented on the matter and said they shared the problem with the Google Search community team.

Hi user 7696433869963815274, this was shared with the Google Search community team. This does not guarantee an answer, but I just wanted to let you know that your feedback, problem or question has been shared. (Source)

But with Google yet to acknowledge the problem or say something about it, it’s not yet known how long Google app users will have to wait before they can open web pages in the app.

Wait! I got it! I found out how to fix it! Go to your settings, then go to Chrome, then tap the dots (the more options button), then click “uninstall updates”, then try again.

Update 1 (January 08)

12:38 pm (IST): One of the affected users has suggested a workaround that may fix the “Open Web Pages in App” feature.

Also, this might only work for Samsung Galaxy users, but you can still try to try it !!!! Good luck!!! Please let me know if this works for anyone? Thank you! (Source)
