Text description provided by the architects. Located at the entrance to the Tokyo Institute of Technology, we have designed a platform to host student activity. To maintain a clear view of the clock tower, an important landmark for the campus, most of the building is located underground. Above ground, the building takes on a lush tumulus-like shape, integrating perfectly with the surrounding landscape.

The roof, made up of tiers and tiers, resonates with the green sloping wall of the adjacent library, collectively creating a green valley. The green valley serves as a new green space to invite life and activity for students.

The line between the interior space and the exterior landscape is blurred continuing the stepped landscape into the building. This allows activities such as co-learning and joint workshops to be carried out simultaneously on different levels. The space flows ambiguously without clear spatial divisions, stimulating the senses of the users both visually and physically.

In order to consider many complex site conditions, we first determined the general cross-sectional profile of the roof, followed by the strip-shaped steps of the fan-shaped bleachers. This resulted in a roof silhouette reminiscent of the landscape of a river delta pouring into campus. By exposing the twisted structure that supports the roof, the interior space gives a certain fluidity. Two architectural landscapes, the external and internal landscapes, have been created in relation to each other in a sonic harmony.
