How to enable real-time translated subtitles in Google Meet calls

[ad_1]

(Pocket-lint) – Google Meet introduced live translated subtitles for video calls.

Google first began testing the feature last year. It works on the web or mobile, but can only translate from English to French, German, Portuguese and Spanish. However, it’s a step forward in making video calling more inclusive, as it removes any potential barriers to language proficiency.

We can imagine that it is useful in meetings at all costs or training and also in educational contexts, but also only in individual calls with friends.

How to use Google Meet live translated subtitles

To start using live translated subtitles in Google Meet, you must first enable subtitles in settings, then set it to English and enable translated subtitles. You can choose from one of the four translated languages.

On your computer, open Google Meet. From a meeting, click More Options> Settings> Subtitles. Turn on “Captions” and set the language to English. Turn on “Translated subtitles”. Select a language: French, German, Portuguese and Spanish .

Note: For more detailed information, see the Google Meet help page.

Why can you try Google Meet live translated subtitles?

Anyone using Google Meet can use standard subtitles, but live translated subtitles are currently only available for the following Workspace editions: Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Teaching and Learning Upgrade, and Education Plus.

It is spreading gradually, so it may take a couple of weeks before you see it.
