More Android owners are finally trying Google Translate’s exclusive redesign for the Pixel 6 after users noticed Friday (via XDA-Developers) that the app had been updated on non-Pixel smartphones.

The redesign is based on Google’s Material You design language prevalent on Android 12 and Google’s apps. It uses the full display of the phone and has large rounded buttons for each function. They are also positioned towards the bottom of the screen for better reachability.

Some features like Conversations and Camera look basically the same, but the Transcribe feature is now just a big button with a microphone. The hamburger menu is gone too, with the user’s profile thumbnail in the top right corner, similar to Google’s other apps.

The redesign was only available on the Pixel 6 series before it started arriving on older Pixel smartphones in November. Now, all the best Android phones will be able to try the new Translator experience.

So far, it has appeared on our Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with Android 12 and on our LG Wing with Android 11, among other devices, which means it’s not exclusive to the latest version of Google’s software.

The redesign should appear in version 6.28 of the app. It may take some time for it to show up on your phone – we noticed this much later on Wing – but in case you’re impatient, you can always download the latest Google Translate APK from APKMirror.
