Google One VPN is now available on iPhone

The VPN service included with a Google One Premium subscription is finally available on iPhone following Google’s promise in October 2020 that it would arrive on iOS. While a Google-managed VPN has been available on the platform for months via the Google Fi cellular service, today’s update means anyone paying for 2 TB or more of Google One storage should now also get a VPN for their phone. .

The VPN is available to people in 18 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, and Mexico. IPhone users may be familiar with the idea of an updated storage plan that also includes a way to keep your IP and Internet traffic private – Apple includes its private forwarding service in all of its paid iCloud plans.

Google’s VPN doesn’t allow Americans to watch British Netflix

For iPhone owners who are more interested in Google’s services than Apple’s, however, a VPN is a nice addition. The service has one main caveat: you won’t be able to get an IP address in another country, potentially unblocking several shows on streaming services. While there are other VPN services that use this feature as one of their main selling points, it’s not something you get with offers from Google or Apple.

Google also mentions some features it added to VPN for Android users in its blog post, including a “safe disconnect” feature that cuts off your internet access if you’re disconnected from the VPN (which should make sure your data doesn’t end up going somewhere unexpected). It also indicates that you can set some apps to bypass the VPN if you are using it on Android.
